The Commodore basketball program has been in rough shape the last three or four years, though last season was definitely a step in the right direction. This team hasn’t yet broken out since Jerry Stackhouse took over the program in 2019, but perhaps this could be the year?

Unfortunately, it initially seems that’s not the case, with Scotty Pippen Jr. and his 20 points per game off to the NBA Draft. In his absence, Jordan Wright (12.3 ppg, 6.4 rpg last year) will need to play a bigger role, while Myles Stute is back as well. The Commodores will lean heavily on Liam Robbins to play a bigger role, while former UTEP guard Keonte Kennedy and UC Davis combo guard Ezra Manjon slide right into the rotation. 4-star center Lee Dort will likely get starting minutes right away.

The loss of Pippen really stings and it’s fair to wonder where the scoring is going to come from this roster. The star power is gone and the Commodores will struggle in a tough SEC. There’s certainly talent on this roster and things could come together, but Stackhouse might be in for a rough fourth season in Nashville.
