Arkansas Basketball: Projected rotation and minutes for 2022-23 season
Power forward
Projected starter: Trevon Brazile (20 mpg)
The first offseason pickup for the Razorbacks was Brazile, a 6’9 transfer forward from Missouri that averaged 6.6 ppg and 5.1 rpg on 53% shooting from the field. He was a starter for the Tigers and was only in double figures in four games last season but has tremendous potential based on his raw athleticism. He also averaged nearly two blocks a game on the defensive end, including a season-high six against Illinois.
Brazile can be an excellent defender in the SEC against some elite athletes and can play the Trey Wade/Au’Diese Toney role at the four-spot. And if his offense legitimately improves, he’ll be on NBA Draft boards in 2023.
Reserve: Jordan Walsh (8 mpg), Makhi Mitchell (12 mpg) – In case of emergency/injury: Kamani Johnson
If Brazile does not improve on offense, having Walsh come in for offensive purposes is ideal. If he warrants around 30 mpg, Arkansas will find ways to get him on the court and the four-spot is the most up for grabs. The other option is one of the Mitchell twins, a pair of big men transfers from Rhode Island that has been a package deal since the Maryland days.
Makhi is a little smaller than his brother and is more suited to guard power forwards in the SEC. He’s actually the better rebounder of the two, averaging 9.9 ppg, 7.3 rpg, and 1.4 bpg. There’s a question about how he can fit in certain lineups, as he doesn’t spread the floor but if the Razorbacks want some huge lineups to try and dominate smaller teams, he can get some time there. If not, Walsh can get more minutes.
