NCAA Basketball: 10 most unappreciated head coaches in 2022
By Joey Loose
5. Bob McKillop – Davidson
When Davidson hired McKillop way back in 1989 they were an independent team still figuring out their future. Fast forward more than three decades and the Wildcats are one of the best programs in the A-10, the best mid-major league in college basketball. What transpired between those years is a long road of success and prosperity.
Across his career, McKillop has led Davidson to the NCAA Tournament ten times, with the clearly highlight being the 2008 team, where Steph Curry lead the Wildcats to the Elite Eight. Years of dominating the Southern Conference lead the Wildcats to the A-10, and while they are less dominant in a much better league, this team did win the regular-season title this past season.
With all of these accolades and great length of success, you’d think we’d be talking more about McKillop, but he seems to be forgotten sometimes. Maybe it’s the fact that he does coach in a mid-major league and has never moved on to a bigger school. He’ll always be the coach who landed and helped develop Steph Curry, but this man’s won over 500 games even without that star shooter.
