ACC Basketball: 5 most underrated transfers heading into 2022-23 season
1. G Brevin Galloway, Clemson
Brevin Galloway has been playing college basketball as long as anybody, first suiting up for the College of Charleston in 2017. His career will continue deep into 2023 with his third program and second in the ACC.
Last season – Galloway’s first and only at Boston College – was the first time in years that the guard was not a starter. He made a few spot starts but largely came off the bench for the Eagles, allowing him to fly a bit under the radar this offseason.
With the Eagles, Galloway averaged 8.3 points per game. He didn’t contribute much on the boards or in assists and struggled massively from distance, hitting only 25.6 percent of his threes.
That feels like an anomaly. Galloway made at least a third of his threes in the prior three seasons, though the 2020-21 season included a small sample size of only four games. Galloway was averaging a career-high 15 points per game during that short season with Charleston.
Clemson should feel more like home for Galloway, who is from South Carolina. His brother played tight end for Dabo Swinney for four seasons.
Galloway should also be able to shoot his way out of his recent struggles and take on a bigger role for Brad Brownell’s team. Clemson’s backcourt is relatively young, the opposite of Galloway in college basketball terms. The coach will lean heavily on Galloway’s experience.
If Clemson is going to take another step forward this season, Brevin Galloway will have to play a critical role.
