1. Creighton

The Bluejays are in fantastic shape and it’s no fluke that they sit atop these rankings, nor is it something that will likely change until the season starts. Coach Greg McDermott’s squad won 23 games last year and gave eventual champion Kansas an intense battle in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, a game that Creighton played without two of their stars. With the talent coming back next season, it’s fair to expect much bigger things in Omaha.

Though Ryan Hawkins and Alex O’Connell are gone, the Bluejays get another year from stud center Ryan Kalkbrenner (13.1 ppg, 7.7 rpg last year), while also getting production from sophomores Trey Alexander, Arthur Kaluma, and Ryan Nembhard. Creighton also landed one of the prizes of the Transfer Portal, nabbing former Summit League Player of the Year Baylor Scheierman from South Dakota State.

Creighton is in position for this next season to be really special. The season before, Creighton made their first Sweet Sixteen in nearly fifty years, but this year’s team has the potential to make the first Final Four in program history. Obviously, the players have to live up to potential and this team has to hope the injury bug doesn’t bite in the postseason again, but there will plenty of buzz at Creighton all season long.
