Trevor Keels – No. 42 pick to the New York Knicks

When it comes to the physical aspect of the NBA, Keels is ready right now. The 6’4 and 220-pound guard has the size and strength to handle his own without question. He’s also a good defender and capable passer but his severe inconsistency on offense likely is what causes him to slide out of the first round.

Keels shot under 32% from three-point range but was at his best when he can crash to the basket and with more spacing at the next level should be able to do that more easily. Ultimately, New York is taking him for his defensive potential.

The Knicks had a really interesting draft, including trading out of No. 11 to get some future assets. So Keels was the franchise’s first pick in the 2022 draft. There are rumors as to who they might go after with some additional cap room, potentially Jalen Brunson of the Dallas Mavericks or even Kyrie Irving of the Brooklyn Nets.

It’s hard to envision the career of a mid-level 2nd round pick but Keels has a good chance of sticking around as a developing role player. A few of the veterans will be moving around this offseason, providing an opportunity for the 5th Duke Basketball drafted to make some noise of his own.
