NBA Draft 2022: Biggest overall takeaways from draft night
Other tidbits
- In the inaugural draft for Overtime Elite, neither Jean Montero or Dom Barlow was selected. Montero had first-round buzz entering the year, but his play with OTE did nothing to help him. Barlow surfaced onto the team’s radars, and wound up top-45 on my board, but not enough to get picked. I think Montero’s fall was more on him as a prospect and less about OTE, but this is certainly worth noting. A small part of me wonders how this will affect OTE’s projected 2023 lottery picks Amen and Ausar Thompson…but those guys are so good it probably won’t matter.
- A few big-time college scorers/stars went undrafted Thursday with Kofi Cockburn, Johnny Juzang, Alondes Williams, and Collin Gillespie being the notable ones. It’s just a good reminder that college success does not equal NBA projection.
- With so much good young talent having entered the NBA recently, roster spots are becoming harder to come by. As a result, there were a handful of draft-and-stash picks used in the middle to late part of the second round.
- I have caved into following the picks of the draft via Twitter first before they get announced by Adam Silver a handful of minutes later, but ESPN needs to do something about the TV analysts being behind or talking about a player on one team when he has already been traded to the other. I know it’s not easy, but there’s got to be a better way.
That officially wraps it up for me this cycle, in what was a fun, and eventful process. We now turn our attention to you, Victor Wembanyama.
