Cam Spencer, 6’4 Guard/Wing, Rutgers Scarlet Knights

Head coach Steve Pikiell and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights will lose their dynamic duo of Ron Harper Jr. and Geo Baker, but they’ve added a solid piece out of the transfer portal that could make them a surprise team in the Big Ten once again in 2022-23.

Cam Spencer joins the Scarlet Knights as a graduate transfer after spending the past three seasons at Loyola (MD). He appeared in 58 games (42 starts), putting together averages of 14.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 3.1 apg, and 1.4 spg on 38.8 percent shooting from 3-point range and 47.1 percent from the field.

Spencer is a 6-foot-4 guard with a strong frame at 205 pounds that’s shown he can get after it on both ends of the floor. He had the best season of his career with the Loyola Greyhounds this past season, pouring in 18.9 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 3.2 apg, and 2.3 spg, all career-high averages.

He’s a two-way playmaker that will look to light a fire in the Rutgers program across the next two seasons with the return of Cliff Omoruyi (11.9 ppg), Paul Mulcahy (9.0 ppg), Caleb McConnell (7.1 ppg), Aundre Hyatt (4.3 ppg) and Dean Reiber (2.9 ppg) to look forward to on the horizon.

The Scarlet Knights finished fourth in the Big Ten standings this past season and made it to the First Four of last year’s NCAA Tournament. While it will be tough to replace Ron Harper Jr. and Geo Baker, adding Cam Spencer should move the needle for Coach Pikiell and company.
