Tydus Verhoeven, 6’9 Forward/Center, Northwestern Wildcats

Tydus Verhoeven makes the leap from Conference USA to the Big Ten where he looks to boost the Northwestern Wildcats’ frontcourt after losing their leading scorer from a season ago in Pete Nance, who’s off to Chapel Hill.

They’ll return Boo Buie, Chase Audige, and Ty Berry, three solid contributors from a season ago but with Nance and Ryan Young both gone, they’ll have a frontcourt to rebuild before turning things around this season.

Verhoeven finds himself at his third location since beginning his collegiate back in 2017 with Duquesne. He’s spent the last three seasons at UTEP, where he’s become a menace in the frontcourt, especially on the rebounding and rim-protection front. He’ll look to utilize his skillset as an addition to the Northwestern Wildcats lineup in 2022-23.

He averaged 6.6 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1.1 apg, and 1.0 bpg in his final season with the Miners, finishing 10th in Conference USA in total blocks (32) when it was all said and done. He’s not necessarily an offensive juggernaut but his 1.5 offensive rebounds per game show he knows how to find the ball as a rebounder.

Verhoeven is capable of scoring at an efficient rate around the rim, shooting 54.6 percent from the field in his entire career as mostly a back-to-the-basket threat.
