10. Fairleigh Dickinson Knights

2021-22 record: 4-22 (4-11 in NEC)

After a miserable past season, it’s a complete roster turnover for the Knights. The only consistent starter back is sophomore guard Sebastien Lamaute, who averaged just 5.8 ppg last season. They do have a few solid Junior College transfers coming in (Kerwin Prince, Cam Tweedy, Heru Bligen), as well as a trio of transfers from St. Thomas in Demetre Roberts (16.4 ppg), Sean Moore (6.8 ppg and Grant Singleton (12.4 ppg).

There’s not a lot of proven production on this roster and with a new head coach in Tobin Anderson, expect there to be some growing pains in season one. It’ll be difficult to scout if you’re Pittsburgh but from a talent perspective, they shouldn’t have much trouble.

9. Alabama State Hornets

2021-22 record: 10-21 (8-10 in SWAC)

The Hornets have a new head coach in Tony Madlock and he brings over his son and last season’s All-MEAC performer, Antonio Madlock (12.7 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 3.2 apg) at South Carolina State with him. The team also returns a lot of talent from last season, including guards Kenny Strawbridge and Isaiah Range.

The key to Alabama State is the frontcourt in returning leading scorers, Trace Young and EJ Liddell. Liddell, a former top-50 prospect and transfer from Texas, has the size and skill to both Pittsburgh inside. The Hornets shouldn’t be a tough out but they do have some talent worth paying attention to.
