4. Garet Beal – Maine

There’s no irony here, Beal is a 6’6 guard from the town of Beals. After starring in high school, he stayed in-state, beginning his collegiate career playing basketball at Maine. He was part of the basketball program for three years, though they weren’t the most successful years for the Bears program.

He started a handful of games as a freshman, and had decent numbers, averaging 4.5 points per game. He had an 18-point performance in a loss to Hartford late in the year. He became more productive in his later seasons, but injuries took their toll. He played just fifteen games as a sophomore, averaging 6.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, but starting most of those games. During his junior year, he had a career-high 23-point outing in a win against Longwood, a game in which he hit six 3-pointers.

He played just 26 games in his final two seasons and showed signs of brilliance, making nearly 78% of his 2-point attempts during that final season, albeit on limited chances. All in all, Beal was a solid piece on a dreadful Maine program, but there’s no reason to hold that against him. He did what he could and was a solid piece for a pair of Maine coaches who couldn’t turn the tide for this program.
