22. Texas Longhorns

I didn’t include five-star prospect Dillon Mitchell in the backcourt piece for Texas so he’s in this one. And he’ll be a big impact player as a freshman, a 6’8 forward with tremendous offensive potential, and also a quality defender. The only question is how he fits with Timmy Allen, who led Texas in scoring last season and is also a combo forward known for scoring.

There’s not a ton of depth inside for the Longhorns but as long as Mitchell is an impact player out the gate. Allen was a pleasant surprise as a transfer from Utah last season and his scoring was arguably the reason the team didn’t fall apart after falling short of preseason expectations.

Also coming back for a 5th-year is Christian Bishop. He’s an undersized center at 6’7 and doesn’t give much offensively but he’s a very good defender inside. That’s his bread and butter and his backup will be Dylan Disu, who was injured last season after transferring over from Vanderbilt and provided very little. Texas needs much more from him this time around and the hope is that they can use Disu at the five when they need scoring and Bishop when defense is needed.

There’s a lot of potential with this group but last season’s struggles put them down a few levels. It’ll come down to Mitchell to determine how good they’ll actually be.
