NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Missouri of last decade
By Joey Loose
2. Otto Porter Jr. – Georgetown
He was one of the top forward prospects back in 2011, and Porter really delivered when he got into the college game. A 6’8 forward from Morley, this 4-star recruit found his way to Georgetown to play under John Thompson III. Porter spend just a pair of seasons suiting up for the Hoyas; his decision to leave was understandable when you consider his impressive sophomore year.
He wasn’t a starter until late in his freshman year, but Porter found a way to be productive, including a season-high 20 points in a Big East Tournament game against Pittsburgh. As a sophomore, he averaged 16.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, leading the Hoyas to the Big East regular season title. He had 33 points in a road win at Syracuse late in the year but saw his career end unceremoniously as Georgetown was upset by Florida Gulf Coast in the NCAA Tournament.
However, Porter’s excellent season saw him named a First Team All-American and the Big East Player of the Year. He really developed into a star in that second collegiate season, leading the conference in field goal percentage and a few other statistics. Porter wisely jumped to the NBA, and was taken with the 3rd pick of the 2013 NBA Draft; his career continues nearly a decade later, having recently won his first NBA title.
