NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Oklahoma of last decade
By Joey Loose
6. Jordan Woodard – Oklahoma
The Sooners are well-represented in today’s look at the state of Oklahoma and Woodard is certainly the next example. A 6’0 point guard from Arcadia, Woodard arrived on campus in 2013, spending nearly all of the next four seasons as the program’s starter in the backcourt. He played his role well, developing into one of the Big 12’s best point guards while also helping lead the program to the Final Four as a junior.
Woodard was sharp right off the bat, averaging 10.3 points and 4.6 assists per season as a freshman. He set a career-high with 12 assists in a win over UT Arlington. By his junior year, he was a more important part of the offense, scoring in double-figures in all five of the Sooner’s NCAA Tournament games during their run to the Final Four. He averaged 14.6 points per game as a senior while maintaining consistently impressive assist and steals numbers.
Woodard wasn’t flashy but he was an important piece for Lon Kruger and these Sooners. He was among the league’s leaders in assists, steals, and free throw shooting in his later years and was a force during that run to the Final Four. Woodard was an important figure in Oklahoma basketball history and ranks highly on some of those leaderboards. After that 2017 season, he continued his basketball career overseas after a brief stint in the G-League.
