Final Thoughts and Outlook

With the reigning regular season champions Iona undergoing some big roster changes and MAAC Tournament champions St. Peter’s losing both their head coach in Shaheen Holloway and a majority of their contributors, the MAAC is going to be up for grabs this year. Fourth place Monmouth left for the CAA and is being replaced by Mount St. Mary’s. There is a window for the Bobcats to make some noise this season.

While Iona is still likely going to be the preseason favorite to win the conference, after that there’s no clear second. Rider and in-state rival Fairfield are going to put up a strong fight, as will Manhattan and Siena. With the Bobcats included that’s six teams with a legitimate case to be a Top 2 team in the conference, and that doesn’t even include the reigning champion Peacocks. The Mountaineers are also going to be a wild card, as they are brand new to the conference. When it’s all said and done, I could see Quinnipiac ranked anywhere from second to eighth in the MAAC this season, quite a large margin.

The Bobcats sneakily have one of the deepest backcourts in the country, with guys like Jones, Balanc, Williams, Chenery, Kortright, and Lewis all being very talented in their own right. You could make an argument that all six of them are good enough to be at the very least rotational players at a higher major. Combine that with the new-look frontcourt, Coach Dunleavy may have his best team he has ever had in Hamden this season.

At the end of the day, the way this team is built is similar to last year. They’re not very tall but will beat you in other ways. As long as another late-season collapse can be avoided, there is a strong chance that the Quinnipiac Bobcats will make noise in the MAAC this upcoming season.
