9. Mac McClung – Georgetown / Texas Tech

A 6’2 guard from Gate City, McClung didn’t travel far, beginning his collegiate career over at Georgetown under Patrick Ewing. McClung was an impressive talent and was a scoring point guard who starred for two seasons with the Hoyas. After those two years, he transferred to Texas Tech, spending his final season as the point guard for the Red Raiders.

McClung scored a career-high 38 points as a freshman in a win over Little Rock and was always a potent offensive weapon. He put up decent assists numbers and averaged 15.7 points per game as a sophomore, the highest average on the Hoyas. That final year at Texas Tech allowed him to experience team success after Georgetown’s struggles; the Red Raiders made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He averaged 15.5 points a game to lead Texas Tech in scoring.

McClung was a great piece at Georgetown but was vital at Texas Tech, later named Second Team All-Big 12 for that third and final collegiate season. His time with the Hoyas was limited by injury, but that season with the Red Raiders really allowed him to come into his own. He skipped the rest of his eligibility and spent much of this last season bouncing between the NBA and the G-League.
