NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing top-5 for top-100 forward Zayden High
Texas Longhorns
The Longhorns have been after a number of class of 2023 frontcourt prospects since they’ll likely lose 80% of their current players in that area by the end of next season. Both Timmy Allen and Christian Bishop have just one year left and combo forward and five-star freshman Dillon Mitchell is a “one and done” prospect as well.
High would be a nice offensive player for Texas and his size at the four-spot would be something Coach Chris Beard hasn’t had in a while. They’re after other recruits but right now, he’d have a ton of potential minutes as a freshman and playing for an annual Big 12 contender. Plus, High would be able to play at home in the state of Texas too.
Villanova Wildcats
The Big East juggernaut has a new head coach in Kyle Neptune to replace Hall of Famer Jay Wright but between the new status of the program overall and his success at Fordham last season, recruits are still interested to play for Villanova.
There’s also plenty of room available in the frontcourt for the Wildcats. Five-star forward Cam Whitmore is likely just around for one year and there’s little proven depth outside of forward Eric Dixon. Even if Trey Patterson and Nnanna Njoku become impact players this season, there still would be room for High to join the frontcourt and get plenty of minutes. The only question is how good will Neptune be back at Villanova, compare to how proven the other head coaches are on this list.
One thing is clear, all five stops can offer immediate minutes to Zayden High, who is looking to play for not only as a freshman but for a ranked program as well. All five of these NCAA Basketball programs are usually favorites for other recruitments but now they face off. It’s anyone’s guess where he’ll end up at this point but it’s one recruiting battle to keep a close eye on.
