TCU Basketball: 2022-23 season preview and outlook for Horned Frogs
By Joey Loose
Projected Starters
Guard – Mike Miles Jr. (Junior)
This Horned Frogs’ guard is certainly their best player, as Miles averaged 15.4 points, 3.8 assists, and 3.5 rebounds a game last season. Miles was named Second Team All-Big 12 and scored at least 20 points in both Tourney games last year. Miles doesn’t exactly fit the normal role of point guard, but he should be TCU’s leading offensive player again this season, hoping to shoot the ball a bit better from long range (just 29% last year).
Guard – Damion Baugh (Senior)
In a similar role to Miles, Baugh excelled in TCU’s backcourt last season, averaging 10.6 points, 4.5 assists, and 4.4 rebounds a game for the Horned Frogs. Another combo guard who can run the point, Baugh also struggled from long range last year (27%) but might be the best on the roster at running this offense.
Forward – Chuck O’Bannon Jr. (Senior)
After three years of limited play at USC, it’s O’Bannon’s third and final year at TCU and he’s looking to go out with a bang. He averaged 9.5 points a game as one of TCU’s wings last year, but he had a career-high 23 points in that season-ending loss to Arizona. Don’t be shocked to see his role in the offense increase, especially after shooting a decent clip from long range, including 5 3-pointers against the Wildcats.
Forward – Emanuel Miller (Senior)
After establishing himself at Texas A&M to start his career, Miller returns for a second year with the Horned Frogs, having averaged 10.3 points and 6.2 rebounds a game last year. He’s another wing who can play anywhere in the frontcourt; he was part of why TCU was one of the nation’s best rebounding teams last season, especially on the offensive end.
Center – Eddie Lampkin Jr. (Junior)
A massive figure and a rising talent, Lampkin enters his junior season hoping to take another step forward for this Horned Frogs’ frontcourt. He averaged 6.8 points and 6.2 rebounds last season but really emerged late in the year, gaining career-highs with 20 points and 14 rebounds against Arizona in that final game. Lampkin could be a major weapon for the Horned Frogs just by his size and ability to rebound the ball, but TCU needs him to be more consistent on both ends of the court.
