Schedule Outlook

As is the case with many power conference teams, the Horned Frogs get a relatively easy home slate, especially at the start of the season. Four straight mid-majors come to Fort Worth, with none of them expected to put up much of a challenge against the Horned Frogs, making the road to a 4-0 start a pretty simple one.

The Horned Frogs then head to Niceville, Florida as a part of the Emerald Coast Classic. They’ll face off against California in the opening round and then get either Clemson or Iowa in the final game. It’s fair to say that TCU is the favorite to win this four-team event, something that seemed impossible only a few seasons ago for this program.

The rest of the nonconference slate does have some intrigue, starting November 30th with their Big 12/Big East Battle contest against Providence. They’ll play the Friars at home and do the same with local rival SMU a week and a half later. Sandwiched by a few more simple mid-major home games, the Horned Frogs do have a trip to Salt Lake City to take on Utah, their former conference mates in the MWC. There’s absolutely a chance the Horned Frogs are unbeaten at 12-0 before big 12 play begins.

Big 12 teams play a full round-robin schedule, which means there are some significantly difficult road trips down the line for the Horned Frogs. They begin conference play at home against Texas Tech, but travel to Waco to play Baylor on January 4th, one of their hardest games of the year. They do have home games over Baylor, Kansas, and Texas late in the slate, giving them a chance to pick up some significant wins. It is also worth mentioning that they’ll travel to Mississippi State on January 28th as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge.
