Atlantic 10 Basketball: 3 key takeaways from 2022-23 season Media Day

2. Fordham’s Backcourt Is On The Rise
Fordham Coach Keith Urgo was quick to mention that the Rams’ leading scorer Darius Quisenberry is fully healthy following an injury-riddled end of the season and noted that “he’s taken a lot of pride in becoming a really good leader”, which Urgo believes Fordham was missing from the Rams’ players last season.
In regards to Quissenberry’s on-court contributions, Urgo said he has “already seen a tremendous amount of improvement. Just from ball-handling skills and his leadership. He’s mostly been known to be a scorer, now he’s making everybody around him better.” With a lack of veteran point guards on the roster, any development toward Quisenberry becoming a major playmaker could be a significant boon for Fordham.
And despite the departure of the pesky Josh Colon-Navarro, Urgo anticipates that Fordham will actually increase their tendency to press opposing backcourts with Quissenberry and freshman Will Richardson at the helm of that attack. Urgo was emphatic that Richardson can handle the Colon-Navarro role, noting that he’s “extremely quick” and that Richardson “brings the same type of energy” as his predecessor in terms of pressuring the ball and drawing charges.
