Drake Basketball: 2022-23 season preview and outlook for the Bulldogs
Key reserves for Drake Basketball
Drake is not the deepest team in the Valley, but DeVries is high on his bench.
Sardaar Calhoun – Wing
Calhoun is a former Florida State Seminole and last season played at Texas Tech. The 6’6 senior played eight games and averaged 3.5 points for the Red Raiders after playing in 25 games and averaging 5.3 for the Seminoles the year before.
While at Missouri-West Plains (JUCO) he became the program’s second-leading all-time scorer. He is a threat from deep, making over 38 percent of his long-distance attempts at the D1 level and 44 percent at West Plains.
Okay Djamgouz – Guard
Djamgouz is one of the most intriguing Drake players. The Canadian native doubled his playing time and scoring average last season, compared to his freshman year. While finishing the season with a 4.2 scoring average, he scored 20 points in Drake’s CBI win over Fort Wayne. It was his third double-digit scoring performance.
While the sample size is small (79 attempts) his career three-point percentage is .430. He could become a factor on this year’s team.
Drake is looking for Brodie’s backup. At times Tucker DeVries will play the five, but if redshirt freshman Issa Samake or Division 2 transfer Eric Northweather can give the Bulldogs some real post-production, it would give Brodie some time off and add balance to the DU offensive sets.
