Season Outlook

At this time last season, there wouldn’t have been many encouraging words about Miami. They had some formidable pieces, including a few that remain and have been discussed today, but nobody saw an Elite Eight run from a potential bottom-of-the-barrel ACC squad. Twelve months later, the script has been somewhat flipped, but what does that mean we can expect from this squad?

One thing we know is that the Hurricanes still have a ton of talent on this team. Pack and Omier are two of the ACC’s most impactful transfers and will play a major role in Miami’s success this year. Returning a stud like Wong is extremely important as well. The Hurricanes look to have a ton of talent in the backcourt with potential in the frontcourt, especially with some of these younger players.

However, we shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves. This is still a very good squad on paper, but this is not last year’s team. Sure, they add a pair of very important transfers, but these Hurricanes are depending on those young pieces in the frontcourt quite a bit this year. It’s possible some of those new faces develop quickly but there’s the potential for depth issues in the frontcourt.

Miami surprised everyone last season and there’s no chance they’ll be able to fly under the radar this year. Pack and Wong already made national news for exorbitant NIL deals and many eyes will be on this squad once ACC play comes around. It would be foolish to expect another Elite Eight run from this program, but it’s not silly to think that this is an NCAA Tournament team. If everything clicks, could we be in for more postseason magic from Larranaga and this squad?
