NCAA Basketball: Top 25 breakout sophomores to watch for 2022-23 season
16. Trevon Brazile – Arkansas Razorbacks
2021-22 stats (at Missouri): 6.6 ppg and 5.1 rpg
The gifted athlete started 23 of 25 games at Missouri and while his overall stats won’t blow you out of the water, Brazile did have a few good games against quality opponents. Some examples include a five-block game against Illinois and a season-high 15 points versus LSU in the SEC Tournament.
He’s a good defender and quality rim runner, which makes him a perfect fit to play center for the Razorbacks. Brazile will have much better talent surrounding him, including five-star point guard Nick Smith to run plenty of pick-and-roll plays. Now that he’s playing for a nationally-ranked team, look for the sophomore forward to be on everyone’s radar.
15. Brandon Murray – Georgetown Hoyas
2021-22 stats (at LSU): 10.0 ppg and 3.0 rpg
The frontcourt led the way for LSU last season but Murray was good overall on the perimeter, starting 31 games and shooting 43% from the field. He had six games of at least 15 points, including 21 points against Texas A&M, part of a strong stretch where he scored double figures in eight out of nine games.
Murray goes from being the 4th option on offense to potentially the first, joining a Hoyas roster filled with a bunch of newcomers. The roles for everyone are to be determined but on a team that’s in major need of scoring, look for Murray to have a big role this season and potentially be the go-to guy.
