NCAA Basketball: Pros and cons of No. 1 recruit Isaiah Collier final 4 options
Michigan Wolverines
Pros
Only two NCAA Basketball programs have made the Sweet 16 in each of the last five NCAA Tournaments; Gonzaga and Michigan. The program has been a national contender under Juwan Howard and has several players now in the NBA. It’s also a team that has a ton of young talent that should stick around for a while and there’s also a chance that All-American center Hunter Dickinson could return for another year and pair with Collier as well.
With Princeton transfer Jaelin Llewellyn gone after next season, the lead guard position will be wide open. This is a great opportunity for Collier to come in and be a focal point on this Big Ten program with a history of winning.
Cons
While Llewellyn will be leaving, Michigan does have freshman Dug McDaniel and a top-50 class of 2023 commit, George Washington coming as well. Both are true point guards and anything outside of a breakout year from McDaniel won’t affect the five-star’s playing time. But it could force Collier to play off the ball a little more than expected if the team has to play those two guards a little more.
There’s also the concern that the Wolverines will be rebuilding a bit if Dickinson does go pro after this year. The current roster already has lots of question marks and they only have one frontcourt commit in the 2023 class in top-100 big Papa Kante. It’s a situation where the team may not have a ton of talent around the five-star, putting them outside of the top tier in the Big Ten a year from now.
