8. Recent results mean that anyone can win the ESPN Events Invitational

A tournament that hasn’t gotten a ton of talk is this one, mainly because of the lack of marquee programs at the top. But there are several previous NCAA Tournament teams and Siena is the lone mid-major in the group. And with teams with coaches potentially on the hot seat, there are some storylines that can come out of here.

The problem is that this field of programs did not have the best couple of weeks. Some had small setbacks, such as Seton Hall losing to Iowa, Stanford losing to Wisconsin, and Memphis losing to Saint Louis. Then there were bigger setbacks, with Oklahoma losing at home to Sam Houston State, Nebraska losing by 20 to St. John’s, and most notably, Florida State starting out 0-4 overall on the season. Considering that the Seminoles were supposed to be the headliner of the group, the ESPN Events Tournament is in some trouble.

The lone unbeaten team in this event is Ole Miss (4-0). But they’ve yet to play anyone notable so there’s a chance that they’ll get exposed this week. One thing is for sure at least; most of these power conference programs can’t afford to lose multiple games and remain a viable at-large contender going forward.

So if you’re a lover of the “bubble” and overall Bracketology, this could be a cool group of games to watch after all.
