Davidson Wildcats – Win over San Francisco

One of the top mid-major battles this week included the Wildcats beating San Fran late to get a sneaky top-100 win. If the South Carolina Gamecocks can at least stay in the top 100 as well, that’s another resume-building the team can hold on to. And there’s still a major opportunity (Purdue) that Davidson has in a couple of weeks to get a signature victory.

The A-10 hasn’t done well at the top so far, with both Dayton and VCU struggling amid injury issues. As of now, the team most likely to get a bid to the NCAA Tournament after Saint Louis is Davidson, who is a nice surprise after losing two all-conference players and longtime head coach, Bob McKillop, this past offseason.

St. John’s Red Storm – Wins over Temple, Niagara, and Syracuse

There’s rightfully some annoyance over the scheduling strategy of head coach Mike Anderson, with limited opportunities to bolster their resume for the NCAA Tournament. But so far, they’ve been able to take advantage of what they have, including winning the Empire Class. The wins over Temple and Syracuse may not do much when it’s all said and done but at least there are no bad losses through the first month of the season.

The Red Storm do have Iowa State and Florida State left before Big East play, with one vastly overachieving and the other vastly underachieving. But as long as they can avoid losing to the Seminoles and the remaining buy games, they’ll be in good shape and on the right side of Bracketology projections.
