Big Ten Basketball: Wisconsin rises, Indiana falls in latest power rankings
12. Nebraska Cornhuskers – 6-5 (0-2)
Much credit to the Cornhuskers for the past month, as they’ve faced a legit schedule in the past month. That includes a program-defining victory over rival and then-ranked opponent, Creighton on the road by 10 points. Unfortunately, the Bluejays are on a four-game losing streak before Monday night’s game against Arizona State, devaluing that win.
Nebraska also has previous wins over both Boston College and Florida State but outside of winless Louisville, are the two worst teams in the ACC. They did take Purdue to overtime this past weekend despite having a hobbled Sam Greisel, who has been great for them beforehand.
Derrick Walker had 14 points and 10 rebounds in the loss to the Boilermakers and handled National Player of the Year candidate Zach Edey as well as one could. And sharpshooter Keisei Tominaga had a game-high 19 points off the bench and currently is second on the team in scoring.
The Cornhuskers have more opportunity to show their improvement, with games against Kansas State and Queens to round out the non-conference. They’re much more competitive in this year of the Fred Hoiberg era but now have to turn these close losses into more wins.
