7. Iowa Hawkeyes – 7-3 (0-1)

It’s been a tough stretch of opponents for the Hawkeyes in the past few weeks, including against TCU, Duke, Wisconsin, and Iowa State. Making matters more difficult for the team, star forward Kris Murray, who’s averaging close to 20 and 10 on the season, got injured in the loss to the Blue Devils in the Jimmy V Classic and has missed the past couple of games.

But that didn’t matter against rival Iowa State in the Cy-Hawk Classic, starting out on a 24-4 run to blow the Cyclones out of the water. Filip Rebraca had 22 points and 11 rebounds in the game, with three other starters scoring in double figures.

And the team nearly won another game without Murray, falling to Wisconsin on the road in overtime, 78-75. Patrick McCaffery had 24 points to lead all scorers, while both Tony Perkins and Connor McCaffery each had 17. The Hawkeyes may have gone 2-3 but didn’t suffer any bad defeats and hopefully, the Iowa State win should work well on their resume going forward.

Iowa now has time to get Murray healthy heading into Big Ten Basketball play, with easy home games against Southeast Missouri State and Eastern Illinois. They won’t need him for those games and gives more time for the supporting cast to continue developing and getting better.
