NCAA Basketball: Gonzaga, Arizona and UCLA rise on latest top 25 power ranking

25. Utah State (9-0)
There are just five unbeaten teams left in NCAA basketball and Utah State gets the mid-major spotlight again this week with their perfect 9-0 mark. The Aggies aren’t exactly wiping out top-level opposition, but you can argue that they haven’t exactly been playing nobodies either. Ryan Odom’s squad looks much improved compared to last season, but how far can this team really go?
We didn’t get many answers this week, as Utah State’s only contest was against non-D1 Westminster on Thursday night. The Aggies won 106-68 and their offense truly feasted, hitting 21 of their 37 3-point attempts in the win. Zee Hamoda had 28 points off the bench, Steven Ashworth had 17 points and 5 assists, and Sean Bairstow added 16 points and 6 assists.
We’re going to see what Utah State is made of when MWC play gets going, as there are certainly a few other strong teams in this conference. Their shooting has been great this season (and not just against Westminster) and the defense has done just enough to get them nine straight wins to open the campaign. Games against Weber State and Seattle are their last impediments before enjoying the Christmas holidays and getting ready for conference play.
