Villanova’s Christmas wish: Continued growth from Cam Whitmore

Before the season started it was thought that Villanova had a chance to be Villanova with Kyle Neptune replacing Jay Wright. Then came a 2-5 start in November, but since the turn of the calendar to December, things have changed, more specifically cam Whitmore has arrived. The freshman from Maryland made his debut against Oklahoma and since then the Wildcats are 4-0.

Whitmore has been fantastic in the first four games of his collegiate career, averaging 13.5 points and five rebounds and has knocked down 6 of 22 three-point shots, and maintains a 52.5% effective field goal percentage. The Wildcats defense has also improved, allowing 61 ppg so far in December compared to 71 in November.

Villanova has won four in a row to move to 6-5 and it’s probably no coincidence that Whitmore returned four games ago. The Wildcats’ wish list consists of one thing right now: the continued growth of their star freshman. Now that Whitmore is on the floor for the Wildcats things have been looking up for the Wildcats, they have won four straight as they head into league play this week beginning with Saint John’s.

Their biggest wish heading into the new year has to be the continued health and development of Whitmore which will once again lead to Villanova being a contender for another Big East title.
