3. Trayce Jackson-Davis block party not enough for Indiana against Kansas

The good news for Indiana was that they got back key freshman guard, Jalen Hood-Schifino, after missing the last three games, two of which were losses. The bad news for the Hoosiers was that they lost starting guard Xavier Johnson in the game against Kansas midway through the first half with a lower-leg injury.

The worst news was that the Jayhawks simply dominated Indiana all 40 minutes, racing out to a big lead at home and ultimately winning, 84-62. Six starters were in double figures, led by 20 points from freshman Gradey Dick. Jalen Wilson had just 11 points on 4/18 shooting from the field but it didn’t matter, since Kansas got 17 steals and limited Indiana to 38% shooting overall.

Trayce-Jackson Davis had a nice overall game, producing 13 points, six rebounds, and nine blocks. Unfortunately, he had little help from the supporting cast, which has become a reoccurring theme. And if Johnson is out for any period of time, the Hoosiers are going to be in trouble in league play.

Guys like Tamar Bates, Race Thompson, Miller Kopp, and Hood-Schifino have shown that they can have big games but definitely not on a consistent basis. If that doesn’t get figured out soon, Indiana will struggle to keep with the preseason expectations of being a top-20 caliber team.
