NCAA Basketball Takeaways: UNC, Gonzaga, Houston and UCLA all get major wins
5. Arizona’s frontcourt proves too much for Tennessee
While Zach Edey of Purdue may be the best individual frontcourt player in NCAA Basketball, Arizona has the best starting frontcourt. Azuolas Tubelis has looked like an All-American candidate this season, while Oumar Ballo has been one of the top breakout stars of the season. Even with a backcourt that has had some ups and downs so far, they’ve looked like a national title contender and the Tennessee matchup was another example.
It was one of the top games of the day, with both teams going back and forth. In the end, a late push from both Pelle Larsson and Courtney Ramey allowed the Wildcats to get the 75-70 win. Those two guards combined for 30 points but overall, it was Tubelis and Ballo who once again shined, combining for 37 points and 17 rebounds in the game.
Few teams can compare to Arizona down low and if the guards are good, it’s going to be hard to beat this team in Match. But Tennessee had a good showing, despite its best player, Santiago Vescovi, scoring just nine points on just 2/12 shooting. Zakai Zeigler had 21 points off the bench in a road environment and kept them in the game.
