NCAA Basketball: Top 25 impact transfers midway through 2022-23 season
22. Baylor Scheierman – Creighton Bluejays
2022-23 stats: 12.9 ppg, 9.6 rpg, 2.7 apg
The former Summit League Player of the Year at South Dakota State wasn’t going to replicate his stats last season but Scheierman has still managed to be the team’s 2nd or 3rd-best player. He’s averaging 39% from deep on 6.6 attempts while having a 12-game streak of double-digit scoring games. That includes a season-high 20 points in a win over Arkansas.
Scheierman’s rebounding has also stood out, with nine games with at least 10 boards. He stepped up while center Ryan Kalkbrenner was out and has been able to play any role the Bluejays have needed so far, even when the sophomores have struggled.
21. Keion Brooks – Washington Huskies
2022-23 stats: 16.6 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.4 apg
The former Kentucky forward was looking for a bigger role and he’s certainly found it in Seattle, leading the team in both scoring and rebounding. Brooks has had at least eight points in each game, including a career-high 30 points versus Cal Poly. He also went for 14 points in a loss to Gonzaga and 14 and 11 in an overtime win over Saint Mary’s, the best one for the Huskies.
With center Frankck Kepnang out for the foreseeable future, Washington will need even more from Brooks going forward in Pac-12 play. The team has exceeded expectations in the non-conference and has proven to be competitive. Can the senior forward continue his stellar play?
