NCAA Basketball: Top 25 impact transfers midway through 2022-23 season
18. Johni Broome – Auburn Tigers
2022-23 stats: 12.2 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 2.8 bpg
The former Ohio Valley Defensive Player of the Year has been very effective for the Tigers on both ends of the court, second in scoring and leading them on the boards. Broome has been in double figures in all but two games and has consistently shown up in the most important games to this point. The junior center had 16 points and eight rebounds in a loss to USC, while also having 18 points, six rebounds, and five assists in a needed win over Washington.
Broome also blocked eight shots and was on triple-double watch against Saint Louis as well. He was never going to be an exact replacement for Walker Kessler but the Morehead State transfer certainly has been able to translate his production in the non-conference. Let’s see if he can continue that in SEC play.
17. Dae Dae Grant – Duquesne Dukes
2022-23 stats: 17.9 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 2.4 apg
Grant was a prolific scorer at Miami (Oh) and transferred that easily over to the Dukes, where he leads them in scoring by a wide margin. The senior shooting guard already has six games of at least 20 points scored, including a 21-point and 8-assist effort in a win over Indiana State. He’s also shooting over 40% from three-point range on nearly eight attempts as well.
Last season, Duquense won six games total. Already this year, Grant has led them to a 10-4 record and has the chance to compete for a top-half spot in the Atlantic 10. In terms of pure impact, Grant has certainly had that and more for them.
