14. Tristen Newton – UConn Huskies

2022-23 stats: 10.2 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 4.5 apg

After a breakout year at East Carolina, Newton was one of the most sought after guards in the NCAA Basketball transfer portal. He’s the starting point guard on the No. 2 team in the country and leads them in assists, so while the production has been inconsistent, the senior guard still warrants a good spot.

Newton has a triple-double on his resume, going for 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists in a win over Buffalo. He had 23 points in the victory over Oregon in the PK85 Invitational, as well as a recent 17 points and seven assists in a comeback win over Georgetown in league play. He’s remained an effective all-around starter on one of the biggest surprises of the season,

13. Norchad Omier – Miami Hurricanes

2022-23 stats: 13.5 ppg, 9.8 rpg, 1.3 apg

The former Sun Belt Player of the Year at Arkansas State had to beat the history of smaller centers making the rough transition to the power conference level. The 6’7 Omier has done that well for Miami, who had some early big games while the guards (Nijel Pack and Isaiah Wong) struggled a bit. He had 19 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Providence, along with an 11-point and 11-rebound effort against NC State.

Omier has just been consistent for the Hurricanes, scoring in double figures in all but one game and producing six double-doubles. He’s shown that he can operate against big and small teams and is one of the better centers in the ACC. Pack was supposed to be the top newcomer for Miami but so far, it’s clearly been Omier.
