12. Jake Stephens – Chattanooga Mocs

2022-23 stats: 21.5 ppg, 10.3 rpg, 3.4 apg

The 6’10 center had a big year at VMI and while he elected to stay in the SoCon at Chattanooga, Stephens has somehow managed to produce even better numbers. The big man has been in double figures in every game, including a 32-point and 20-rebound effort against Belmont.

Stephens has seven double-doubles out of 13 games and is shooting at a highly efficient 56% shooting from the field, as well as 46% from three-point range on high volume. In a conference that is wide open after Furman, the Mocs have a real chance for a top-tier finish, thanks to one of the best overall players in NCAA Basketball.

11. D’Moi Hodge – Missouri Tigers

2022-23 stats: 16.7 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 2.3 apg

Kobe Brown is coming off of back-to-back 30-point games for the surprisingly good Tigers. But next to him has been the stellar play of Hodge, who followed his head coach Dennis Gates over from Cleveland State. He’s a former Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year but has become a quality scorer, leading the team in scoring.

Hodge has been in double figures in all but one game, including a season-high 30 points against  SIU-Edwardsville. The senior has gone for 19 points against Wichita State and 20 in the big win over Illinois, as well as 15 in the SEC-opening win over Kentucky. He’s proven to be a quality two-way contributor at the highest of levels and the best of the newcomers for Missouri.
