Big Ten Basketball power rankings: Illinois free falls, Rutgers soars up
5. Michigan State Spartans – 10-4 (2-1)
The Spartans took on a sneaky Nebraska quad that has looked improved over previous years, which could’ve easily been a trap game, considering who they play this weekend. But a good start by them allowed for a 22-point halftime lead, ultimately winning, 74-56.
Tyson Walker had 21 points to lead all scorers on 9/15 shooting. Forward Joey Hauser had a double-double, while backup center Jaxon Kohler had 10 points on a perfect 5/5 shooting from the field off the bench. They held the Cornhuskers to 2/16 from three-point range and out-rebounded them, 40-27.
Also important to note that Mail Hall played 19 minutes off the bench and scored five points in his second game back from an injury that held him out for a month. He’s a double-digit scorer and versatile forward defender so having him get back into the fold is important for Michigan State’s chances.
The Spartans’ next game is the rivalry matchup with Michigan on Saturday, a game that’s usually important but has bigger meaning this time around considering the Bracketology implications. With this one at home, Michigan State will likely be favored in the game.
