Eric Musselman

Another one of those power conference coaches that could be in line for a new challenge is none other than the coach who has turned Arkansas back into a national power. Musselman has coached nearly everywhere across the last three-plus decades… well nearly everywhere. He’s never actually played or coached in the state of Texas, but does that really matter at all for the Longhorns?

He’s a former head coach in several basketball leagues, including with the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings of the NBA. Musselman recently won 110 games across four seasons at Nevada, completely revolutionizing that Wolf Pack program. At Arkansas since 2019, he’s winning just as many games in the SEC and has led the Razorbacks to consecutive Elite Eight runs. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a candidate with more success in recent years, especially in the winning column.

The energy that Musselman has brought to the Arkansas program has been palpable. After the recent cloud surrounding Beard and what’s happened with these Longhorns, they could sure a refresh with a new coach like Musselman on board. If the Longhorns can offer him a significant pay raise, maybe they can start fresh with a coach who had a very successful decade, even though he’d be leaving Arkansas for another SEC school (it didn’t stop Beard from jumping ship in his own conference).
