NCAA Basketball: Kendric Davis, Brice Williams among Players of the Week
By Bryan Mauro
Mid-major Player of the Week – Brice Williams
This was the hardest week to pick a winner so far there were so many fantastic performances. James Bishop IV scored 40 points and was all over the court for George Washington. Jacob Polakovich had a game in which he scored 27 points to go along with 26 rebounds. That was against a Division 1 opponent. It is always hard to ignore a game where a player records 26 rebounds against anyone. Williams was so consistent and so efficient that it was ultimately hard to not give the award to the Charlotte 49ers player.
As mentioned above Williams scored 31 points in each game last week and he did while only missing five total shots the entire week. His team won both games and it was in large part to his effort on the offensive end. Charlotte is a very interesting team this year, they are a team who hangs their hat on the defensive end but this year they have been putting up huge offensive numbers. They move the ball well and shoot it extremely well from the outside. Williams is the offensive star for Charlotte and even when you are relied on to score, not many guys have gotten on a heater quite like Williams was this last week.
Williams winning means there are still no repeat winners of the Busting Brackets Mid Major player of the week award. Williams is a guy who will likely never have a week like this again during his time in college and that is okay because this is always going to be a week he is going to remember. Most of the league won’t have a thirty-point game the entire season. The elite scorers will have multiple over the year but very few will have two in the same week in back-to-back games. The back-to-back 30-point games, the unbelievable shooting percentage, and the overall stuffing of the stat sheet are what set Williams apart from the rest of the pack.
