NCAA Basketball: Kansas State, Providence on the rise on latest top 25 power ranking

16. TCU (13-2)
There was plenty of understandable concern with the way that TCU got this season started, especially after that loss to Northwestern State. It would’ve been easy to see that early play and disregard the Horned Frogs, but they’ve proven since that horrid start that they’re rightfully one of the stronger basketball teams in the nation. They returned all of the talent from last year’s squad and have made an early statement, especially in Big 12 play.
That statement came Wednesday night, as they clawed back from a 17-point deficit to get an impressive 88-87 road win at Baylor. Mike Miles Jr. had a legendary night with 33 points while both Damion Baugh and Eddie Lampkin Jr. added 15 points of their own. Unfortunately, the weekend didn’t quite go the Horned Frogs’ way, falling 69-67 at home to a tough Iowa State squad in a back-and-forth affair. Miles had 18 points in the loss, with Baugh’s 17-point, 7-rebound, 5-assist performance still impressive.
While TCU certainly would’ve preferred to get the win against the Cyclones, there’s still plenty to like about how this team is playing. They righted a lot of wrongs in their 11-game winning streak and certainly look like one of the many contenders in a very strong Big 12. A chance for redemption comes with more difficult games ahead; TCU will head to Texas on Wednesday before a home date with Kansas State.
