NCAA Basketball: Kansas State, Providence on the rise on latest top 25 power ranking

6. Connecticut (15-2)
Twelve games into the season it was hard to argue against these Huskies as perhaps the best team in college basketball. Their play in recent weeks has been far more uneven, though they still sit in a very enviable position in the basketball world. They have gotten exceptional play from Adama Sanogo and he’s not the only big with major contributions this season.
This past week started with the Huskies’ second straight loss, this time a 73-61 road loss at Providence. Jordan Hawkins had 15 points while Donovan Clingan contributed 12 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. The Huskies were back on track on Saturday, winning 69-60 against Creighton, the preseason favorite in the league. Sanogo had a monster performance with 26 points and 9 rebounds while Hawkins added 17 points in the bounce-back win.
Connecticut played much better against Creighton, which diminishes some of that concern after multiple double-digit road losses against their Big East rivals. They’re back on the road at Marquette next week, but this team is going to be better than alright if they can keep getting these types of performances out of Sanogo, Clingan, and the rest of this talented lineup. Connecticut is beaten down a bit, but this is still one of the better teams in the nation.
