NCAA Basketball: Top 10 rankings for 2022-23 National Player of the Year
2. Jalen Wilson – Kansas Jayhawks
2022-23 stats: 20.2 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 2.8 apg
Wilson had a rough start last season, being suspended from a DUI arrest and coming off the bench for a number of games. He still finished the year strong, starting in Kansas’ national title run. This time around, the senior forward has started out as strong as possible, going for 19 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists against Omaha.
But it was the 25 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists in a win over Duke in the Championship Classic to put him on the national radar. And then Wilson followed it up with a career-high 33 points in a win over Southern Utah the next game. He’s been in double figures in every game, with eight of 15 going for 20+. And in what’s turned out to be a big resume builder, Wilson went for 24 points and 10 rebounds in a road win over Missouri.
The Jayhawks have been a top-5 team all season, currently at 14-1 and 3-0 in the Big 12. This is a conference that has no bad teams and whoever wins it will garner plenty of accolades. If Kansas wins it, while Wilson averages around 20 and 9 going forward, he’ll have the best individual resume of any player in NCAA Basketball.
