Michigan Wolverines – 9-7 (3-2)

There are moments with this team where you can see the potential and more moments where you can’t trust them. Look at the non-conference for example. Outside of the blowout loss to what is actually a good Arizona State team, Michigan was in the game in the final minute against Virginia, Kentucky, and North Carolina. And they even started 3-0 in Big Ten Basketball play as well.

The problem is that the lows can’t be decreased. They needed overtime to get over Ohio and actually lost to Central Michigan, one of the worst teams in the MAC. Recent close road losses to Michigan State and Iowa aren’t shameful but the overall losses are building up for this team.

Michigan still has All-American big man Hunter Dickinson, who leads them with 18.3 ppg and 8.5 rpg. The issue has been the youth that surrounds him. With Princeton transfer Jaelin Llewellyn out for the season with an injury, freshman Dug McDaniel now takes over the offense at point alongside Kobe Bufkin.

Those two have played well at times, along with freshman wing and NBA prospect, Jett Howard. After a season-high 34 points at Iowa, he’s now up to 15.5 ppg. They need every point from him and Dickinson to stay in the game and unless veterans such as Joey Baker and Terrance Williams step up, they’ll be vulnerable in many games.
