Arkansas Razorbacks

At some point, the injuries to both Nick Smith and Trevon Brazile were going to impact this team. And now it seems as if it has, now losing four of five games. Losing at home to Alabama isn’t shameful since they’re now the best team in the SEC. But losing at Vanderbilt, who has a NET ranking outside of the top 100, is an issue. Especially considering that they gave up 97 points in the process.

I’m not making the argument that Arkansas is in any trouble in Bracketology, with a NET ranking in the top 20. But this team was set up to be a top-4 seed in the NCAA Tournament but may be going on a downward slide that can’t be stopped. They have a favorable stretch going forward that should have them back on track but if not, then the Razorbacks could be in some future trouble.

LSU Tigers

When the Tigers beat Arkansas to open SEC play, there was a possibility that head coach Matt McMahon was going to have this team on the bubble in his first season. But LSU, who was 12-1 at the time, has since lost four straight games, including at home to Florida and then by a whopping 40 points on the road at Alabama.

The Tigers’ NET ranking is over 100 and has just two Quad 1 and 2 wins combined to this point. So the glimmer of hope that the Arkansas victory gave has quickly gone away. It’s doubtful that LSU will be brought up in future Bracketology talks but that could change if they can beat two of Auburn, Arkansas, or Tennessee coming up.
