Big 12 Basketball power rankings, Kansas, Kansas State on top ahead of clash
3. Texas Longhorns – 15-2 (4-1)
After the shocking 116-103 loss to Kansas State a couple of weeks ago, Texas has been able to run off three straight wins. The last two games were at home, starting with TCU. It was a rough start for the Longhorns, scoring 29 first-half points and trailing by 14 at halftime. But thanks to a 50-point effort in the final 20 minutes, Texas was able to get the 79-75 victory.
Timmy Allen led the team with 17 points, while Sir’Jabari Rice had 15 off the bench. Marcus Carr had 11 points and seven assists and Dylan Disu had 14 points on a perfect 7/7 from the field. They then had to stage another comeback at home, trailing Texas Tech by nine points last weekend. Yet the offense came through late once again, with 47 second-half points to stage the comeback to hold on for the 72-70 victory.
Carr had 20 points on 7/18 shooting from the field, while Rice was huge off the bench once again with 18 points and four assists. Allen was the other double-digit scorer on the night with 17 points on 6/9 shooting.
With Chris Beard officially out as head coach, it’s up to Rodney Terry to lead Texas to postseason success. But first, he’ll be on the road for the next couple of games, taking on Iowa State and West Virginia.
