Big East Basketball power rankings: Villanova drops lower, St. John’s rises
7. Seton Hall Pirates – 11-8 (4-4)
It’s been a rollercoaster of a season for Seton Hall, largely operating in various winning and losing streaks. At the moment, the team has won three in a row, though all of them have come against the bottom 4 in the league.
Still, the Pirates hasn’t completely destroyed its at-large resume and has avoided the landmines in the Big East. After beating Butler at home, the team went on the road to beat Georgetown, 66-51. The game was close midway through, before Al-Amir Dawes took the game over, scoring a game-high 24 points on 8/16 shooting. He was the lone Pirate in double figures that night, which includes Kadary Richmond going 1/10 from the field. But he made up for it with eight rebounds, six assists, and four steals.
In the 71-67 road win at DePaul, it was a group effort on offense. KC Ndefo led the way with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Femi Odukale had 12 points off the bench for the first time this season. Seton Hall’s offense will never look pretty with this group but after some poor performances, the defense has made strides as of late.
The Pirates are at home this week but face two good opponents in UConn and Providence. I stated before that their at-large hopes aren’t dead yet, with just the bad loss against Siena, who is in first place in the MAAC. A win over one of these opponents could get them on the bubble.
