Dusty May

Much like Kelsey, May is another coach who will be a hot name this offseason based on the remarkable year he’s having. While Notre Dame might want a coach with a bit more high-major experience, it’d be hard to go wrong with someone who’s a proven and recognized winner.

May was a student manager and later a video coordinator at Indiana before his coaching career got started. The former Indiana native was an assistant at five D1 schools, including nearly a decade under Mike White at Louisiana Tech and Florida. He took the Florida Atlantic job in 2018 and has led the Owls to a pair of postseason berths, but this year is where it’s all come together. His Owls sit at 18-1 and are ranked in the AP Top 25 for the first time in program history; the program is trending towards its first NCAA Tournament in more than two decades.

The overall record (84-57) doesn’t jump off the page but May has clearly been building something here in Boca Raton. He’s got that connection from growing up in Indiana, though a Hoosier running the Notre Dame program would be a sight to see. All things considered, he’s definitely someone who’s going to get serious looks in the coming offseason from a number of schools. We’re not sure if he’s ready for the ACC, but he’s shown he can win at an impressive enough level in Conference USA.
