NCAA Basketball: Gonzaga, Kansas drops, Duke, UNC rises in latest top 25 power ranking
13. Xavier Musketeers – 16-4 (8-1 Big East)
The Musketeers had three games this week, starting on Sunday against Marquette. In a battle of first-place teams, Xavier was able to pull off the 80-76 win, thanks to a balanced effort from the team. Six players were in double figures, led by 16 points each from Souley Boum and Jack Nunge, who also had 13 rebounds in the game.
But the 11-game win streak for Xavier ended in shocking fashion this week, losing by one point on the road at DePaul. In the 73-72 setback, forwards Nunge and Zach Freemantle each had double-doubles, with Adam Kunkel having 14 points. But a 1/12 shooting performance from Boum proved to be a big difference.
The Musketeers were able to bounce back this weekend against Georgetown, winning 95-82 in a shootout. Freemantle went off in the game, scoring 30 points along with 11 rebounds and seven assists. Colby Jones had 20 points in the game while the team shot 55% from the field overall.
The Musketeers are now on the road up next, taking on UConn and Creighton. It’ll be a tough week for the Big East standings leaders, as the Huskies are desperate to get back on track, while the Bluejays are looking for a signature victory.
