NCAA Basketball: Gonzaga, Kansas drops, Duke, UNC rises in latest top 25 power ranking
22. Florida Atlantic Owls – 19-1 (9-0 CUSA)
The Owls had a trio of road games this week and was going to be a major test on the team’s unbeaten record in league play. The first game was against a Western Kentucky squad that has plenty of talent on paper. It was a one-point game at halftime before FAU limited the Hilltoppers to just 29 second-half points for a 76-62 win. Nick Boyd had 16 points to lead the team, while Alijah Martin and Johnell Davis combined for 29 off the bench.
It was less dramatic for the Owls at Texas-San Antonio, having a 16-point halftime lead en route to another victory. The final score was 83-64, with Davis scoring 14 points off the bench. Brandon Weatherspoon was limited to 16 minutes due to foul trouble but managed to produce 12 points.
This weekend, Florida Atlantic was at UTEP, a middling team in Conference USA. While the favorites were up by 13 points at the break, the Miners did make a comeback to have the game somewhat in doubt down the stretch. In the end, the Owls won 67-59, with Davis scoring 20 points off the bench again to lead the way.
FAU does get to return home this week for a couple of games. But one is a rematch against Western Kentucky, while the other is versus Middle Tennessee, which is in the top tier of the CUSA standings.
