NCAA Basketball: Ranking the top 3 teams in play for 4-star guard Bronny James
USC Trojans
With UCLA not in the recruitment, the Trojans are the defacto “local option” for Bronny James, who resides in the Los Angeles area. Assuming that his father LeBron is playing with the Los Angeles Lakers for a couple more years, it makes perfect sense that the prospect stays home.
The one thing that will affect USC’s chances to land James is how he fits with Isaiah Collier. He’s a five-star and top-10 overall prospect in the 2023 NCAA Basketball recruiting class. He’s a “true” point guard and it could force Bronny to play off the ball more than he may want to. There’s also four-star commit and combo guard, Silas Demary Jr., who may be part of the rotation next year.
The good news is that the Trojans will be losing both of its lead guards after this season in Drew Peterson and Boogie Ellis. So there will be plenty of room assuming that Coach Andy Enfield doesn’t land a veteran guard via the portal this offseason.
They’ve been a consistent NCAA Tournament team for a while and have a foundation to keep it that way, assuming a healthy Vincent Iwuchukwu is back and 100% next season. The 2023-24 roster will be a young one but one that Bronny, alongside Collier, can be a leading force. And doing that in Los Angeles, whether at the Pac-12 or Big Ten level, has plenty of benefits.
